It is a classical-style city park with a Japanese-style landscaped pond, arched bridges, lawns and paths, and an open-air music stage, and the Taipei 228 Memorial Museum and the 228 monument are also here. In the park are century-old trees, pigeons and squirrels, and many local residents playing chess and practising tai chi in the pavilions. The park keeps much of the classical landscaping of the Japanese-era Taipei New Park, including a Japanese arched bridge, Chinese-style pavilions beside the lotus pond and a retired old locomotive.
