It supported and cared for the grandmothers (ama) in body and mind, and preserved audiovisual material, books and artefacts relating to the \"comfort women\". After 12 years of preparation, the museum's plaque was unveiled on 8 March 2016, and on 10 December it formally opened as Ama House: Peace and Women's Human Rights Museum. It records the life stories of 59 Taiwanese \"comfort women\" grandmothers, shaped by the suffering they went through.\n\nIt is Taiwan's first multi-purpose social education centre based on the \"comfort women\" human rights movement, bringing together exhibitions on current women's rights issues and women's empowerment.
