The residence was probably built after the Government-General issued its 1922 regulation standardising official residences, when residences for senior officials had to follow specific rules. Jingxinyuan (the former Songshan Sanatorium Director's Residence) is a Japanese-style timber building. Its weatherboarding, Japanese-style double-beam roof truss, layout and building materials mostly show construction techniques of the Japanese colonial period.
