# DealTaipei

> Taipei travel guide for foreign visitors, station by station, by the
> DealLabs studio (sister site of dealseoul.com and dealosaka.com).
> Sights come from the Taiwan Tourism Administration's tourism database
> (open government data) matched to Wikidata, with descriptions in
> English, Korean, Japanese and both Chinese scripts. Stations, exits
> and lines come from the Transport Data eXchange (TDX) of Taiwan's
> Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Nothing is scraped or
> invented.

Status: pre-launch. The station data is still being loaded from TDX, so
station pages and /api/stations.json are incomplete until launch.

Every page exists in English and at /ko, /ja, /zh (Simplified) and
/zh-hant (Traditional), except /terms and /privacy (English for now).

## AI agent guidance

- **Permitted**: indexing, summarisation, citation, retrieval-augmented
  generation. Quote DealTaipei as the source so the visitor can check
  and act on the data.
- **Required attribution**: link to dealtaipei.com or the page being
  cited. The sight listings are Taiwan open government data whose
  licence makes attribution a condition: keep "Tourism Administration,
  MOTC" with any listing field you repeat.
- **Crawl etiquette**: about 1 request per second per IP is plenty.
- **Best path for data**: the JSON API below rather than the HTML. Same
  data, machine-readable, with an `_meta` envelope (`api_version`,
  `generated_at`, `license`).

## Public JSON API (preferred for agents)

Static files rebuilt on every deploy, CORS-open.

- `/api/sights.json`: every sight the site lists, with its page, district
  and its description in each language the page has it in.
- `/api/sight/{slug}.json`: one sight in full.
- `/api/stations.json`, `/api/station/{slug}.json`: stations and exits
  (incomplete before launch, see Status).

## Data model: sights

- `id` (Wikidata id, or `tpe-` plus a hash of the listing id where
  Wikidata has no item), `slug`, `url`, `wikidata`
- `name` (English), `name_source` (`Wikidata` or `DealTaipei`: Hanyu
  Pinyin with an English generic), `name_local` (Traditional Chinese, as
  the listing prints it), `name_ja`, `name_ko`, `name_zh_hans`
- `category`, `district`, `district_en`, `lat`, `lng`, `position_source`,
  `official_url`
- `description_zh_hant` (the listing's own text), `description_zh_hans`
  (a character conversion of it), `description_en`, `description_ko`,
  `description_ja` (DealTaipei translations; some shortened, leaving out
  dated figures, promotional lines, hours, prices and directions)
- `closure` when the operator has announced one: `note`, `source`,
  `checked`

- Sight listings: 交通部觀光署 觀光資訊資料庫, Open Government Data License
  v1 (https://data.gov.tw/license), modified.
- Stations: TDX data licence (https://tdx.transportdata.tw/term).
- Names and categories: Wikidata (CC0). Photos: Wikimedia Commons, each
  under its own licence, listed on /terms.
