Bihu Trail

It connects with the Dagou Streamside Trail, the Yuanjue Temple Trail and the Liyushan Trail, and suits visitors of all ages. At the trail entrance on Lane 131, Dahu Street, there is a realistic mock-up of a mine, with a replica mine entrance, rails and coal carts. Coal mining once thrived here: this was the site of the Xinfu Main Pit (新福本坑), part of the area's industrial history. The trail is mostly level, with only one short steep climb and a small platform for exercise and stretching. Underfoot it changes between boardwalk, gravel, granite blocks and red brick. There are one or two small vegetable plots along the way, the path winds between houses, and ferns, Taiwan acacia and machilus (大葉楠) grow throughout. With luck you may see Taiwan blue magpies flying through the trees, crested serpent eagles circling overhead, or red-bellied squirrels running past. The last section passes bamboo that residents here can hear rustling from their windows. From here you can continue to Yuanjue Temple, Bishanyan and Baishihu, which combine nature with quiet temples.
