Fuyang Eco Park

In 2000 the Taipei City Government designated the site as parkland and transferred the land in stages, and in 2005 and 2006 the Parks and Street Lights Office of the Public Works Department planned, designed and built the park. There are eight themed areas: an entrance information area, a stream restoration area, a cultural history display area, a natural succession area, a butterfly area, a red giant flying squirrel observation area, a Taipei tree frog observation area and a cicada song rest area. The natural succession, butterfly, flying squirrel and tree frog areas together have many plants, including 香楠, Taiwan acacia, 白匏子 and 血桐, thousands of trees, and animals such as tree frogs, butterflies and red giant flying squirrels. Around the edges are houses of a military dependents' village, preserved bunkers, culverts and weathered stone steps that still show the marks where soldiers cut them by hand. Because the area was under military control for a long time and shielded from human disturbance, the whole valley keeps an ecology almost the same as it was more than a hundred years ago. The park has varied woodland, the sound of insects and birds, and preserves lowland forest and streams.
