National Taiwan Museum Palaeontology Hall

In 2005 the National Taiwan Museum system plan was approved: the 土地銀行 bank and the National Taiwan Museum worked together, with the museum responsible for restoring and running the building as a museum of natural history and financial history. In 2012 it received the National Cultural Heritage Preservation Award. Outside, it is a stone building with a massive Roman colonnade, and the walls are finished with scored joints. The cast-iron windows slide up and down with pulleys and counterweights, and are glazed with patterned glass set with hexagonal wire mesh, showing the building techniques and craftsmanship of the time. Inside, the three-storey-high hall is decorated with plaster relief panels. The exhibits cover fossils from the Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras, such as trilobites, dinosaurs and mammals, explaining the evolution of life on Earth. There are also displays on Taiwan's early financial history, archives on the history of the 土地銀行 bank and the restoration of the building.
