Shunyi Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Museum Art Branch

The museum is near Beimen Square in Taipei, at 5 Yanping South Road. The building was formerly 順益行, the original business premises of the 順益 group of companies. Under the planning of chairwoman Lin Chunji, the old building was turned into a new art museum. The museum's founder, honorary chairman Lin Qingfu, has a deep love of his homeland and of Taiwan, and he collected many Taiwanese indigenous artefacts and local paintings. Besides showing paintings collected and donated by Lin Qingfu, the museum holds special exhibitions on different themes, inviting curators from Taiwan and abroad and young artists, to promote Taiwanese culture. For education, the museum focuses on 'local people and culture', 'innovative culture' and 'diverse arts', and works with primary and secondary schools, hoping to make aesthetic education a foundation for children learning about Taiwanese art. It also encourages academic exchange and internships, and welcomes volunteers from different backgrounds, to build a cultural platform shared by everyone. The museum lies in a key area of Taipei's old-street landscape programme, within the Beimen golden arts and culture zone and the area around Taipei Station, the main gateway for visitors from Taiwan and abroad arriving in Taipei. As a starting point for visitors getting to know Taipei, the museum plans to cover the city's new culture and the history, people, technology and interaction of its old streets, and hopes to help people read the city's fabric. It is surrounded by historic sites such as the Western-style building on Futai Street, Zhongshan Hall, the Taiwan Museum Railway Department Park and the postal museum. The museum plans to link activities with these nearby sites, centred on Taiwan's historical memory.
