Taipei Zoo

The zoo's emblem is a sika deer. The recovery of the sika deer is a very successful conservation example and was Taiwan's first case of restoring a wild species by breeding it in a zoo and reintroducing it to the wild. Its story shows the value of zoos and their importance for wildlife conservation. So when the zoo moved from Yuanshan to its new site in Muzha in 1986, it took the sika deer as its new emblem. It is the largest zoo in Southeast Asia, with a rich variety of animals.
