Maokong Gondola

The 4.03 km gondola was the first cable car system in Taipei. A one-way trip takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and there are four stations: Zoo, Zoo South, Zhinan Temple and Maokong. Zoo South is the first stop. Zhinan Temple is the second: the temple has five main halls and a tea pavilion, Zizai Tea Pavilion, serving Wenshan Baozhong, Tieguanyin and other teas, where visitors can rest. Maokong, the last station, is surrounded by tea gardens and teahouses, where people come to drink tea and chat. After dark there are views over the whole Greater Taipei area. Muzha Tieguanyin and Wenshan Baozhong are the well-known teas here, and teahouses also serve tea-based dishes, with views over the Taipei Basin. As the gondola rises and falls with the hills, riders can see MRT trains on the move, the riverside parks along the Jingmei River, Taipei 101 and the Giraffe Incinerator. At Turning Station 2 the line makes a sharp turn and the view opens out over the traffic on the motorway below. After Zhinan Temple Station the line enters a large V-shaped steep slope.
