Wang Dahong Architecture Theatre

In 2018 the museum began running it as the Wang Dahong Architecture Theatre, intended as a base for learning about Wang Dahong and his house and as an experimental platform for Taiwan's architectural history and architectural aesthetics. The name joins two ideas, 'architecture' and 'theatre'. It can be read as 'architecture as a theatre (in which life is staged)', or, taking 建築 ('architecture') as a verb, as 'building a theatre'. 'Theatre' here does not mean a physical space with a stage, seats, actors and an audience. It is closer to building a space apart from the real world, which visitors walk into and experience for themselves, creating their own way of seeing it. Next to it, 王大閎書軒 DH Café is a combined arts space with selected books on architecture and art, coffee and light meals, small exhibitions and themed salon talks. It aims to recreate the elegance and expertise of the architect's study and the lively gathering of people and ideas in the rooms of his house.
