Xinfu Market

In Wanhua District, the Dongsanshui Street market and Xingfu Market form one of the district's representative groups of markets and have witnessed its development and history. The street has three main markets: the Dongsanshui Street Vendor Centre (known as Dongsanshui Market), Xingfu Market and Xinfuding Culture Market. Dongsanshui Market is a traditional market, but a small-scale makeover of its stalls in 2017 gave it a new look, and it is now bright and comfortable, suited to families and visitors. It sells fresh produce and daily goods and has many traditional snack stalls, with local food ranging from roast duck and braised snacks (lu wei) to handmade desserts. The original Xingfu Market has a long history, and the stalls around it continue the tradition, selling fresh and cooked food and daily goods. Popular snacks here include sashimi, oily glutinous rice and handmade dumplings. Xinfuding Culture Market began as the Lüding Food Retail Market, built in 1935. Its horseshoe-shaped building is typical of modern markets of the Japanese colonial period. It is now a city-designated historic site and a space that brings together culture, history and modern creative work, with occasional exhibitions.
