The park was once the Yongchunpi military camp. After the troops moved to Xindian in 2000, the site stood empty for many years.

In 2016 it was rezoned as parkland, and the Geotechnical Engineering Office of the Taipei City Government's Public Works Department designed the present Yongchunpi Ecological Wetland Park. At the foot of the Sishou (Four Beasts) Mountains in Xinyi District, the park covers about 4 hectares and is the first urban wetland ecological park, combining environmental education, ecological restoration and historical value. It opened officially in 2020, and the collared scops owl, which is sometimes seen in the park, was voted its mascot.
