Yongkang Street Area

After the war, road widening, the planning of the site set aside for Da'an Forest Park, and the many nearby schools, universities and cultural institutions shaped the area into a model of city life combining homes, culture and food. Many old house structures remain, some turned into teahouses, bookshops or cafés, mixing traces of history with a modern way of life. This history underlies the area's cultural character. Besides food, a walk here takes in old shop signs on street corners, vintage street houses and small green parks. The area around Yongkang Park is a common place for photos: the shopfronts around the park, light and shade at lane corners, and old window frames and plants are frequent subjects. Small design shops and teahouses can be found on Lishui Street and parts of Jinhua Street, and the Kangqinglong area has quieter, calmer streets. The area changes character from day to night.
