Zhuzihu Calla Lily Season

Calla lilies flower from January to May each year, most heavily in March and April. Zhuzihu grows mainly white calla lilies. The elegant white part, the spathe, is not the flower: the flowers are the many tiny, inconspicuous ones on the yellow spadix in its centre, with male and female flowers in separate, orderly sections. Taipei City's 大地工程處 recommends six streamside trails at Zhuzihu. For large calla lily fields, views of Xiaoyoukeng, egrets and small terraced fields, the Dinghu Loop Trail in the Dinghu area is gentle and suitable for all ages; it takes about 20 minutes. For old farm waterwheels and an ecological pond, the Calla Lily Loop Trail in the Xiahu area also takes about 20 minutes. For waterfalls, rocks, low hills and terraced fields, the Literature Trail in the Shuiwei area takes only about 10 minutes. To look out over terraced calla lily fields on the slopes from higher up, try the Hudi Loop Trail, about 15 minutes. The longest, the Zhuzihu Loop Trail, runs from Hutian Bridge through Donghu, Dinghu, Shuiwei and Xiahu and takes about 50 minutes. There is also the Yulian Path (芋戀道), about 15 minutes, with calla lilies from March to May, agapanthus (愛情花) from April to June and hydrangeas from May to August.
