Beitou Park

At the entrance is a jumping fountain completed in 2009, where water and lights move to music at set times each day. Along Guangming Road stand rare old trees such as paperbarks and luhua trees. The route also passes the Taipei Public Library's first green library building, designed to save energy and cut carbon. Beitou Creek is where Beitou stone (hokutolite), the only mineral in the world named after a place in Taiwan, was found, though it can no longer be seen here. Up the steps on the Zhongshan Road side are the Beitou open-air hot spring pool and the historic Plum Garden (Meiting), named by Yu Youren, which the Taipei City Government's Department of Information and Tourism has turned into the Meiting Visitor Centre. Also here is the Hot Spring Museum, a red-brick building from the Japanese colonial period with wooden window frames combining Japanese and Western styles. The park is home to many kinds of animals and plants, and nearby sights include Thermal Valley. The park is managed by the Yangmingshan Park Management Office.
