Xinbeitou Hot Spring Shopping District

The springs are said to help with skin diseases, nervous sensitivity, asthma and rheumatism, and Beitou became one of the best-known hot spring areas in northern Taiwan. Xinbeitou's spring source is the Dahuangzui hot spring, a sulphate spring with a pH of about 3 to 4. The water is yellowish-white and translucent, at about 50 to 90°C, with a slight smell of sulphur. Beitou's hot spring inns, hotels and clubs are mostly along Zhongshan Road and Guangming Road and around Beitou Park and the geothermal valley (地熱谷). Each has its own features, with a range of hot spring treatments and leisure facilities. Nearby are 吟松閣, 星乃湯 and 瀧乃湯, the 'three treasures' of Beitou hot springs, and Tiangou'an Historic Site Park, which marks Taiwan's first hot spring inn, all with long histories. Also nearby are Beitou Park, the Beitou Hot Spring Museum, the Beitou Cultural Relics Museum and the geothermal valley.
