Datou Drum Pavilion

A new type of band made up of a big drum, a pair of cymbals and a suona horn was formed as the drum pavilion troupe (鼓亭陣), so that it could march along the paths between fields in the countryside. The carved wooden drum pavilions commonly seen are a form developed from it. On the day of the march of 28 February 1947, Chen Cai's drum pavilion troupe joined in and drew many people into the protest march; it was arguably the most important means of publicity at the time.
