About

The site was first, in 1917 during the Japanese colonial period, the Takasago Iron Works (also known as the Takasago Foundry Company), in which the Gu family of Lukang invested. It was later run by Gu Xianrong's daughter-in-law, Gu Yan Bixia (wife of Gu Yuefu).

After the war the Nationalist Government took it over, and the factory was forcibly closed after Gu Yan Bixia was implicated in a case of 'collaborating with bandits'. It was then used by the Ministry of National Defense's Secrecy Bureau and, in the early years of the White Terror in the 1950s, was a key site for interrogating and imprisoning political prisoners.
