About

After the 228 Incident broke out, the Taiwan Provincial Political Construction Association worked actively to mediate between the government and the public and took part in the Settlement Committee. On 8 March the association issued a 'Letter to Compatriots' setting out principles and guidelines for political reform.

When the crackdown began, the authorities arrested and killed members of the association on the grounds that it was a communist organisation and had incited people to rebel. The association's office was above Sanmin Bookstore on Section 2, Yanping North Road, Datong District, Taipei, with the bookshop on the ground floor. Jiang Weichuan was also put on the arrest list because he had helped the Office of the Chief Executive mediate and deal with the 228 Incident.
