Menghuan Lake

Mist drifting over the mountains often gives the lake a hazy look. There is a viewing platform and a trail by the lake; the lakeside trail is short and suits families and easy walkers. Rare plants grow on the shore, such as a species of pipewort and narrow-leaved peat moss, and the ecology is diverse. Recorded species include Günther's frog, the Taipei tree frog and the Mientien tree frog, and birdsong mixes with the calls of frogs. To protect the habitat of these valuable species, the lake is a closed, restricted area. Visitors may only view it from the platform and may not go onto the shore or down to the lake bed. The trail can be slippery and the weather in the mountains changes quickly, so non-slip shoes are advised, and visitors should keep an eye on visibility. The lake is near Lengshuikeng, the Qixingshan trail and Xiaoyoukeng.
