Qianshan Park

From the park you can see Shamao Mountain and Qixing Mountain. In the Japanese colonial period, a stream from the hillside west of Zhongshan Hall, below Qixing Mountain, was brought through the park; it gathers into Yangming Lake, which reflects Qixing Mountain. By the lake there are public baths for men and women. Qianshan Park No. 4 takes the dome-shaped volcanic cone of Shamao Mountain as its concept. Wisteria, which grows well on Yangmingshan, is used to create a landscape echoing the shape of Shamao Mountain, and a green mound serves as a new gateway feature for Yangmingshan. When the wisteria is in flower, visitors can walk among the purple blooms. Qianshan Park No. 3 is in Lane 38, Section 1, Yangming Road, with cherry trees and azaleas. Qianshan Park No. 1, the Panliu area, is next to the Teachers' Centre. Its renovation covered the Xinzi (heart-character) Pond, the shady Biyue Lake rest area, a foot bath area, and Panliu Garden, where several mountain spring channels and white sulphur hot spring channels run among Yangmingshan volcanic rock. The feature stones along the stream were placed under the on-site direction of a leading Japanese master stonemason, so that old and new rocks set each other off. Qianshan Park No. 2, the Yangming Lake area, is across the road from the Panliu area. The stream passes under Shamao Bridge and gathers into a lake here. The men's and women's public baths were renovated and two hot spring foot baths were added, where visitors can soak their feet while looking at the reflection of Shamao Mountain in the lake and at water lilies, which flower here in winter. Along Shamao Road by the lake is a row of andesite seats with stone lanterns, looking out on Penglai Island in the lake and the outline of Qixing Mountain. The renovation returned the edge of Yangming Lake to a natural pond, with grass and stones running gently into the water, and green maples and cherry trees were planted along the shore. After dredging, the lake water is aqua blue.
