Shanshuilu Eco Park

The landfill lies in the Shanzhuku valley, in the south-east corner of Nangang District on the border with Shenkeng District, New Taipei City, from which it takes its name. It was Taipei's second standard sanitary landfill, with a total area of about 65 hectares, a 30-hectare landfill zone and a capacity of about 6.17 million cubic metres. Filling has been completed on 21 hectares of the landfill zone, which has been restored with planting into green space, very different from the former landfill. The scene recalls a line from 'The Fisherman' by the Tang poet Liu Zongyuan, 'a creak of the oar, and the hills and waters are green', and so it was named Shanshuilu ('hills and waters green') Eco Park. Many of the park's facilities were rebuilt from disused structures on the site, and there are interactive and play-based environmental education displays. The open grounds are good for flying kites. From the lookout there are views by day over central Nangang and the Neihu hills, and at night of the traffic on National Freeways 3 and 5.
