About
The theatre is on 10F of the Shuiyuan Building (Shuiyuan Market) and was originally the auditorium of the Taipei City Military Service Bureau. Under the Gongguan waterfront integration plan, the Taipei City Government converted the hall into a professional performance venue with 500 seats, which opened at the end of November 2011.

It is run directly by the city's Department of Cultural Affairs, and performing groups can apply to book dates for performances. The theatre also provides venue sponsorship to help performing groups stage long-running productions, aiming to train arts management talent, build a supportive environment for the arts and strengthen Taiwan's performing arts industry.
