Dadaocheng Church, The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan

The main structure is reinforced brick, built with good-quality exposed red brick from the early Taisho era, and the facade has decorative details combining Chinese and Western features. Because society was conservative at the time, men and women sat separately in the sanctuary and entered by the left and right doors respectively. These features record the development of Christianity in Taipei from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Although the building follows Western church designs, its washed-stone facade decoration shows traditional Taiwanese motifs, blending Chinese and Western styles with a character of its own, which is rare in Taiwan's modern architecture. It was listed as Taipei's 100th historic site. The church also houses a musical chime of 25 bells of different sizes, which plays seven different chimes in rotation.
