Dalong Street Night Market

Next to historic sites such as the Confucius Temple and Bao'an Temple, Dalong Street Night Market has different food in the morning and at night. In the morning, stalls and shops sell Taiwanese breakfasts such as sesame flatbread with soy milk, fried egg pancakes, rice, noodles and congee. At night there are long-established shops with award-winning braised pork rice, rich desserts that are not too sweet, goose meat, and snacks such as rouyuan (meat dumplings), salty crispy chicken and fried rice. 'Taipei Confucian cuisine', designed by a well-known gourmet around stories of the Confucian scholars honoured at the Taipei Confucius Temple, is also served here. Dishes include 欺君子魚 ('fish that fools the gentleman') and 藏珍豆腐 ('hidden treasure tofu', by advance order) at the 小李子海產店 seafood restaurant, 告朔餼羊 ('sacrificial lamb of the new moon') at the 蔡家沙茶羊肉 shacha mutton restaurant, and others such as 關市之雞 ('chicken of the market gate'), 陽貨饋豚 ('Yang Huo's gift of pork'), 釁鐘大牛 ('ox for consecrating the bell') and 君臣啜粥 ('ruler and ministers sip congee').
