Nangang Park

Nangang Park was built in 1987 and covers nearly 11.8 hectares. It sits between hills and water, its buildings are in Chinese style, and there is an imposing Chinese-style archway at the entrance. The park is at the junction of Dongxin Street and Chengfu Road, with the Combined Logistics Command headquarters to the north and the Nangang public housing estate to the south; to the east it looks towards Sishoushan (the Four Beasts Mountains) in Xinyi District. It is the largest landscape park in Nangang District and has a natural pond. The pond is Houshanpi, which was once two large ponds. As farming in Nangang declined and the park and the housing estate were built, part of Houshanpi was filled in, leaving a U-shaped detention pond around a small hill that helps prevent flooding and regulate water levels. The park has a wide variety of plants. Trees include banyan, Bishop wood, maple-leaved bayur and Taiwan acacia; sea mango and willow grow around the pond, and elephant apple and traveller's palm around the music stage and car park. These are combined with flowering or colourful foliage shrubs such as ixora, bush clock vine, azalea, Syzygium, ti plant and croton. A path circles the lake, and the Nangang Park Forest Adventure Playground, designed around the natural setting and terrain, has a double zip line, a roller slide and a sandpit, where children can play and test themselves physically.
