The campus has historic monuments and buildings throughout and is laid out along a clear east-west axis. Royal palms line both sides of Yelin Avenue, with azaleas beside them and camphor trees and Chinese junipers between the avenue and the buildings. The avenue is a place in the city to watch the sunrise, framed by the trees on either side. Near the College of Agriculture are gardens of aquatic plants, vegetables, fruit and herbs, and the experimental farm has ecological restoration projects to observe. The lanes near the campus are full of mainstream and small independent bookshops, along with a café culture.
