Xinbeitou Historic Station

It is the only station of its age surviving on the Tamsui railway line, and indeed in Taipei City. The station is timber-built, and its main architectural features are the carved brackets under the eaves and the '3+1' set of dormer windows added when the building was extended in 1937. When the Tamsui line closed in 1988, the station passed into history and was dismantled and moved to the Taiwan Folk Village in Changhua. In 2003, as awareness of heritage conservation grew, the Taipei City Government and civic groups worked together to bring the station home. After several setbacks, Rirong Assets Co., Ltd., moved by Taipei residents' enthusiasm for the station's return, agreed to donate it free of charge to the city's Department of Cultural Affairs. In 2016 a mock-up of the station was used to test traffic issues in choosing where to rebuild it, and it was finally placed in Qixing Park near its original site, where it stands today. Restoration began soon after, and the reassembled station reopened to the public in April 2017.
