Zhaomingjing Temple

Also known as Zhaoming Temple or the Lovers' Temple, it stands on a hillside in front of Junjianyan (Battleship Rock) in Beitou, surrounded by mountains, with open views over the Guandu Plain ahead. The main temple is shaped like a spire, with a dragon coiled on top. The main deity is the Four-faced Thousand-armed Guanyin, who is prayed to for health, marriage, brightness and wealth. The temple is called the Lovers' Temple because wax figures of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl used to be displayed here. The temple has wish slips: visitors write what they wish for on paper and on a wooden tag, pray to the Four-faced Thousand-armed Guanyin, and put the paper into the wish box beside the statue. Next comes the wishing pool, which holds six bowls, each for a different wish such as love, health or wealth. Visitors throw coins into the bowl for what they want and hang their wooden tag on the wishing pavilion nearby. The wishing pavilion on the temple square bears the words 'True feelings go unseen by others; false feelings are known to heaven', a reminder to lovers to cherish their feelings and not to be insincere, in the hope that all lovers become happy couples.
