About

The Taipei Municipal Social Education Hall (臺北市立社會教育館), founded in 1964, is a familiar arts venue whose main aim is to promote arts and cultural activities. Its public areas are the ground-floor lobby and three exhibition rooms, mainly used for exhibitions, together with the City Stage and an arts plaza, which host music, dance and theatre events from time to time.

After renovation was completed in 2003, the performance section was renamed City Stage and relaunched as a more professional, modern multi-purpose theatre and a more up-to-date space for city events. Besides the main hall on Bade Road, the Yanping Activity Centre in Datong District, the Wenshan Branch in Wenshan District and a family plaza in the City Hall building were added. This eased the limits on numbers at the main hall and made it easier for more people to take part in its activities. In 2014, following a revision of the organisational rules of the city's cultural affairs department, it was renamed 臺北市藝文推廣處, and it was formally inaugurated under that name on 6 November 2015.
