Taixin Bank Culture and Arts Foundation

The foundation sees itself as a supporter and sponsor of professional arts and cultural activities. Looking to the diverse, fast-changing society of the 21st century, with globalisation and localisation advancing side by side, it chose the promotion of Taiwanese contemporary art and culture as its main goal, working on the observation, criticism and funding of local art. Besides helping Taiwanese contemporary art shine in the world's creative culture, it hopes that promoting art will bring more creativity and imagination to people's lives. The 台新藝術獎 award, launched in 2002, is the core of the foundation's work. It covers visual, performing and cross-disciplinary arts, and its active nomination and cross-disciplinary selection systems were the first of their kind in Taiwan. For breadth, depth and international visibility, the nomination process has dedicated nominating observers, interactive discussion and cross-field dialogue, and the ARTalks website as a channel for public discussion, and influential international arts figures are invited to take part in the final selection. In building this home-grown arts award, the foundation presents innovative artworks to the public and, through detailed criticism and related education activities, makes the point that art itself does not take awards as its standard or final goal. The award is an important reflection of Taiwan's diverse culture, letting outstanding works resonate with society again. The foundation hopes to serve as a bridge between artists and the public, and as a messenger of business giving back to society.
